Accountant, Project Controls

Position Summary: Working in a fast paced environment, this person will play a key role in the Florence Copper Project accounting functions. The individual will be responsible for the accounting, project reporting, tax and management information systems at the project level. Significant focus will be determining the project schedule, progress reports and forecasts and supporting the VP, Project Development through all stages of the project life cycle.
Key Result Areas & Specific Responsibilities:
General Accounting
• Setup Curis Arizona’s accounting system
• Review, code and/or inputting of invoices into accounting system
• Prepare and/or post journal entries
• Reconciliation of significant general ledger and project accounts
• Prepare and/or review bank and vendor reconciliations
• Determination of monthly accruals
• Purchase order tracking, matching and reconciliation
• Maintain and manage the fixed asset ledger and inventory
• Generation of internal monthly and quarterly financial statements
• Preparation of quarterly working papers for regulatory reporting and coordination of year-end close
• Coordinate with Curis Canada in the management of the annual audit
• Work with Curis Canada in developing accounting policies and framework in preparation for construction such as coding structure, capitalization policies, etc.
• Review adequacy of financial systems to support production phase
Project Accounting
• Maintain project related records, including purchase orders, contracts and change orders
• Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management
• Create standard contract templates, including detailed terms and conditions
• Participate in the execution and schedule planning, and engineering and construction sessions
• Prepare project schedule, progress reports, forecasts and other status reports, including decision notes as required
• Assist Project Manager in identifying, sorting and checking related contract documentation and decision notes
Budgeting and reporting
• Generate budget to actual reports by department including analysis of cost reports
• Prepare and distribute monthly spend report and details to each department manager
• Develop, monitor and maintain budget and cash flow forecast during PTF stage
• Provide support to operations teams on commitment tracking
• Develop, monitor and maintain budget and cash flow forecast for construction
• Develop production flash reports
Risk and Compliance
• Work with Curis Canada in setup of Curis Arizona accounting policies and procedures manual
• Review the documentation of financial control processes at Curis Arizona
• Assist the Risk and Compliance team in the testing of controls
• Development of project controls and procedures in conjunction with corporate and operations team
• Review the documentation of project control processes at Curis Arizona
Other
• Participate and contribute in special projects and other duties as required.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
• A professional accounting designation
• 8 to 10 years relevant industry and project experience
• Strong MS Office Suite skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
• Possess excellent interpersonal skills
• Organized, diligent and ability to follow up
• Previous project management experience necessary
• Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail
• Experience with Accpac or similar accounting software.
