Senior Aquatic Consultant

Golder Associates Ltd. has an immediate opening for a Senior Biologist. The successful candidate will work within the Environmental Assessment and Biosciences team in Edmonton offering consulting expertise to a variety of clients. In this position, the successful candidate will be involved in a broad range of responsibilities including but not limited to:
* Business development and client servicing activities.
* Applying technical and scientific knowledge, training and experience for projects and proposals in fish habitat ecology, fisheries biology and aquatic ecology, including study design, application of methodologies and techniques or field, laboratory and office work, data and statistical analysis and report preparation;
* Initiate, lead and manage field crews;
* Preparing proposals and reports under direction of senior staff;
* Managing tasks according to client-approved scopes of work, and delivering high quality reports on time and within budget;
* Conducting fish and fish habitat evaluations for various types of multi-disciplinary projects and developments including land development, power, mining, and forestry;
* Assisting in developing fish habitat No Net Loss and compensation strategies and preparing fish and fish habitat environmental impact assessments;
* Interacting with clients and regulators;
* Liaising with the network of Bioscience professionals across Canada and participating in a variety of projects originating from other Golder offices;
* Preparing proposals and design work packages in response to client needs.
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
* University degree in Biology, Ecology or Environmental Sciences;
* Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s degree with 10 years experience or equivalent;
* Demonstrated project management skills;
* Experience conducting fish habitat and fish community assessments;
* Experience monitoring fish habitat compensation installations;
* Experience conducting benthic invertebrate sampling and identification;
* Experience on multi-disciplinary projects and in biological consulting;
* Experience in environmental assessment;
* Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams;
* Excellent oral and written communication skills;
* Good knowledge of Ontario and Federal regulations governing fish habitat, fish, and environmental protection;
* Excellent field survey related skills and experience, including design and implementation of field programs, management and supervision of field crews;
* Excellent planning skills for field logistics and equipment;
* Experience operating backpack and boat electrofishers, lake and river sampling experience;
* Experience operating boats, ATVs and snowmobiles;
* Must be comfortable working in the field at remote locations, or on active construction sites;
* Valid Class ‘G’ driver’s license;
* Access to a vehicle on a daily basis as travel to a variety of locations is not easily accessible by public transportation;
* Available for business travel and extended working hours, when required.
