Senior Social Impact Assessment Specialist

The Cultural Sciences Group (CSG) in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) supports Golder Associates’ Ground Engineering and Environmental Services in Canada and abroad. The group engages in public participation, social impact assessments, archaeology, Aboriginal engagement, and other developmental activities with a socio-economic component. Sectors in which Golder is particularly active include mining, infrastructure, land development, and energy (traditional and alternative).
The Senior Social Impact Assessment Specialist will be responsible for developing, managing, and/or undertaking Socio-Economic Impact Assessments for a diverse range of projects, primarily in mining, infrastructure development, oil & gas and alternative energy in order to help grow and support the Cultural Science Group. In addition, there will be a requirement to provide technical guidance, and support (including mentoring of junior staff) to Golder staff in the GTA and in other offices across Canada.
The key responsibilities in this role include:
Leading and reviewing Social Impact Assessments
Compiling and analyzing data from reports, transcripts, data collection, etc., and translating into effective and actionable recommendations
Directing the full project management process and ensuring Golder’s project standards are met
Writing and conducting peer review / senior review of reports
Conducting business development activities
Managing the client relationship
Supervising and mentoring junior staff and sub-consultants
Demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acts as a role model to other staff;
Maintain a high standard of ethical behaviour to uphold Golder’s reputation and demonstrate a commitment to our Culture, Core Values, and Code of Conduct
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will embody Golder’s Core Values and will possess the following qualifications and abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree in social or environmental studies required; with an advanced degree in relevant social sciences preferred
8 Years related work experience in socio-economic assessments, mining experience in the consulting sector an asset
Experience working collaboratively in a broad range of cultural and social contexts
Experience with social management plans or community development strategies
Experience or aptitude for proposal writing, client development, working in a team setting against tight timelines and other skills appropriate to consulting
Qualitative/quantitative software experience an asset
Strong technical writing skills and proven research writing skills
Professional certifications or designations (e.g., from the International Association for Impact Assessment) an asset
Demonstrated ability to handle a fast-paced consulting environment, as well as multiple project assignments
Ability to travel in Canada and abroad
Strong analytical and communication skills
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
Familiarity with international and Canadian federal/provincial regulatory systems, policies and practices for environmental and socio-economic impact assessment
