• Degree or Diploma in Project Management
• Degree or National Diploma in Engineering
• Five years Post qualification management experience with three years in mining
• Relevant experience in surface / refining mine operations
• Proven ability and relevant experience in Project Management skills
• Advantageous to have a business qualification
• Senior Management level: Mining, Logistics, Plant Processing Knowledge, Infrastructure knowledge
• Management level: Computer Knowledge
• Valid driving licence code 08

Work Description

• The Project Manager is responsible for providing a dedicated project management service to the Group to support major capital expansion projects.
• The role operates with a time-frame of normally 3 to 5 years with certain projects on the 5 to 10 year horizon.
• The role is the operational management of all activities in the setting up and establishment of the new / expanded facilities to cater for the group’s expansion programmes.
• The role is a general project management and coordinating role.
• It deals with every aspect of setting up the project such as infrastructure design and implementation, organisation design and resourcing of the operations, logistics relating to men and materials movement and accommodation etc.
• Specifically the role includes initiating, controlling, commissioning, hand over and closeout of all project activities in line with the design and performance specifications as well as the project plans.
• The Project Manager deals with the day to day running of the project activities and personnel.
• This includes planning and resourcing all aspects of the project program.
• It also includes managing and coordinating all subcontractors / vendors as well as direct liaison with consulting engineers and other relevant stakeholders on project delivery and progress against plan and standards.
• The role includes liaison with stakeholders on all aspects of the projects from safety, project budgets and plans, location and logistical issues, design and layouts, tender preparation and adjudication, construction programme management etc.
• In effect the role acts as the direct line manager for the entire major project with all site personnel and other associated suppliers, EPCM consultants and vendors reporting into the position.
• The role is responsible for the operational delivery of the project (from inception to handover to the operations).

• Setting technical, employee and project performance standards from project guidelines
• Changing plans and schedules to minimise the effect of unexpected problems
• Material orders within agreed parameters
• Technical project control
• Financial expenditure within agreed parameters
• Identifying and controlling specialist expertise when problems occur
• Resource allocation and amendments
• Stopping the project in unsafe conditions
• Recommendations and advice on use of contractors and sub-contractors
• Stopping sub-contractor and contractor work if not within required performance criteria
• Control of design or other project changes and variations
• Mine / plant planning, design and changes
• Mine / plant HRD plans and amendments
• Infrastructure and logistical requirements
• Statutory interpretations and decisions
• Exceptional material orders within agreed parameters
